One of those days

Today, was one of those days. I don't mean to say it was the kind of day that Murphy (of Murphy's law) was in full effect. You know what I mean - Whatever can go wrong will go wrong, types of days. No, this was the type of day that life seemed a bit of kilter.

My plan for the day needed a re-write after the first hour. I started with a painting project that I knew would be difficult. I saw a fall painting using a tessellation technique. The teacher that submitted this idea to the website I found this at said it was for older students. With modifications, I felt like I turned it into something manageable. Nope. The paper that I chose to use failed me with no time to find a more suitable style of paper. I guess the positive thing for the kids is that they had the opportunity to put extra puzzles, build, and work on projects.

Some of the normal behavioral things going on in the classroom seemed to be more noticeable today. I know that the moon wasn't full, but the kids seemed significantly more wiggly.

I considered writing more; including specific stories about my day, but I can't also help to be thankful that my day went better than so many other people around the world. Instead of the junk of the day, here are some pretty great things that happened today.

- One of my students was able to count to 100 for the first time by himself.

- I watched in the hallway while one first grader helped another student get the sleeves for his jacket fixed so that he could play outside.

- Another student impressed me with her ability to blend sounds together to make works.

- Telling time to the hour was starting to click for the kids.

- I have been seeing some great social skills being developed.

- And my students treated me with kindness and grace as I figured out that my painting project just wouldn't work.

While my day was by no means perfect, I think I can point to the many successses and feel a sense of satisfaction. Thank you for sending your children to St. Joseph School! Three more quarters to go before your child completes his/her first full year of school!
