Total Eclipse

Monday, August 21st, 2017 is over. Many of us have been eagerly awaiting the Solar Eclipse. Educators have planned lessons and worried about how to take care of our students. Really, it would have been easy to cancel school today... maybe just start school a week late. I wouldn't have opposed not being in school today, but I am sure glad that I was. I really doubt that the kids (at least in Kindergarten) really understand how rare of an event today's Solar Eclipse was. The world, while it is much bigger than any one of us, usually centers around the individual lives of each child. For the kids in the pictures below, the world includes mom, dad, a few other close immediate family members, their house, their interests, and maybe now school (and by extension perhaps me). To these kids, school is still a major event. Do they realize that we won't normally go outside with special glasses and sit down on beach towels while looking at the sun? With time they may completely forget what happened today. I know I will do my best to make sure that they look back and remember this time.

A few of the pictures were taken of us watching the eclipse. Other pictures captured moments in the classroom.
